Hi Catherine,
one funding is granted there should be no delay, get on to your team and ask when your start date is and if it's not within the next 8 weeks kick up a fuss and ask INPUT for advice.

from the day my consultant put my name forward to the pump clinic team ( aug 20th , 2014 ) to starting on my pump ( sept 29th , 2015 ) was 13 months

As well as asking the health team for a date, it might also be worth getting in touch with Medtronic - I imagine they'd be quite keen to get you started ASAP (the sooner you get started, the sooner they start actually receiving that funding) so they might be able to help with a two pronged approach to your team.

Its great you've managed to secure funding, at least you know it is going to happen.
I was in the same boat as you, I had to go with Medtronic.
It was agreed I could have a pump in March 2014, I didn't find out I had been approved until I asked in June 2014 as I hadn't received a letter telling me.
By August I had a date of starting and actually went on it in November 2014. So it was about 8 months from being approved to going on it.

Gained approval 7 weeks ago and start this Thursday on the pump
Got agreement from Endo back in May

For me it was 4 months from the appointment with my consultant who applied for the funding to when i actually got the pump. But it was suggested to me whilst on a DAFNE follow up appointment about 3 mths earlier i think.

The important thing is, you're sorted now.

I didn't have a choice either and have the Medtronic 640G. Nothing wrong with it its very easy to navigate around and operate. Download the manual and give yourself a bit of a head start prior to your pump training appointment.

From the discussion with my Endo to actually starting on the pump it was around 3 months in total, I didn't get to know the actual date when approval was obtained.

Got agreement from my consultant in the July.
Got confirmation that funding had been okayed in the August.
Had a pre-pump appointment with the diabetes centre on October 12.
Started pumping on October 19 - exactly ONE YEAR AGO TOMORROW!!!

And what a wonderful journey! The waiting time @cath67plum I spent reading absolutely everything I could about pumps and pumping - including everything pump-y on here, plus 'Think Like A Pancreas' and 'Pumping Insulin' from cover to cover. Hardcore!!!

You won't look back. Happy pumping!



Edited to say - forgot to mention - I'm on the Accuchek Insight, made by Roche - so am not a Medtronic girl myself.

Mine took over a year and also had no option with choosing, it was the medtronic for me.

I have also just got funding in place and will have it one month after I had approval

It can be done very quickly. I got my first pump in less than 2 weeks and that was from having a driving incident one day, nurse the next and the nurse delaying due to being on holiday. That was back in 2010.
I've also changed CCGs a further three times then and even this CCG and 2nd hospital have worked magic to get funding, further pump and 3 month funded CGM within 6 weeks of putting in an exceptional funding case.
I have kept in close contact with my nurses, consultants etc. I always ask to have at least one email contact for a member in diabetes teams of that I can keep on top of what's happening when I think about it....generally evening time!

I would ask your team directly for a date explaining that you have to plan for it for Insurance, time off etc..(any excuse or reason that is valid for you). Come over as positive and not whinging... But I would chase up and even ask them on their progress with setting up an account with Medtronic etc.

Some hospitals without pump consultants and just one pump nurse may only have specific times to set people up on pumps. My last hospital only did it twice a year for patients as they had no pump consultant and only one nurse that was fully trained. My new hospital have 4 pump consultants and many specialist dietitian/pump trainers so they do training every week.

I went from agreement to pump very quickly as well. It was mainly about arranging the pick up training that slowed me down, but being pushy about getting it was what made it quick for me. I was in the position of wanting to go on the pump, which doesn't seem all that common.
