How long does pneumonia last?

Hello

I had pneumonia in January. It 'passed' within a week. But even still now, when I walk briskly, I get chest burning and immediate headache that make me close my eyes.

Is this expected?
How long it will last?
Will it ever get better or there will always be susceptibility?
Can anyone help? E.g. pneumonologist, physio, anything?

Thanks!

See a doctor ... nobody here would have a clue and even if they did, not permitted to diagnose

You need to go back and have your chest checked out to ensure you're still in recovery mode.

I had pneumonia as a 4 year old, and in my childhood caught every cold going, but I have no way of knowing if this is how it would have been without pneumonia.

My chest is fine and it didn't stop me being a successful sports person in my teens and adulthood.

I know a couple of people who have been through pneumonia, and you have my sympathies! It is a tough experience and the road to full recovery can be a long one.

Both friends took months to feel properly ‘better’, and one was left with some long term lung issues that I think are scarring deep in the lung, while the other says she now feels 100% again.

So there must be a lot of different factors at play - age, health at onset of illness, severity of infection, whether treatment is successful, environment, etc etc

If you still have concerns then your doc can check you out.

Took me a long time to get over bacterial pneumonia.

A full week in hospital after collapsing at my doctors. 2 days on pure oxygen and intravenous drugs. My body temp peaked at 44deg (that in its self should be fatal)

Wife was allowed by the bed at the worst point as surviving the night was very much in question. I have no memory of a lot of the hospital time.

Was nearly 20 weeks after leaving hospital (lost 3 stone in hospital) I went back to work on reduced hours and another 2 moths till I was back to normal work wise.

At that point I started swimming to get my breathing back and was another couple of months to get to a workable level.
Net result. I should have died and have lungs with 40% scaring. A lot of my left lung is ineffective at best.

DO NOT take pneumonia lightly. I thought I had a 'bit of flu'.

Hi @Rabdos you could have an underlying chest problem, which has been 'hanging about' so you really need to see your GP, for a proper diagnosis and any treatment.
I had pneumonia and sepsis last summer, I was in hospital in ICU, so please get yourself checked out, take care.

Thanks for your input. I am now at A&E as I feel dizzy for the last two days. My lungs don't allow me to walk more than few minutes. It is a dreadful experience.
