Hi. Last week I tried Keto. After 3 days I entered ketosis, I could tell by my breath and also I have some test strips. However, that was as far as I could get, the rest was a nightmare in terms of how I felt. How long did it take you all to adjust to keto from when you first started actual ketosis?

What were you eating before you tried the ketogenic way of eating?
You may have been suffering from something know as "carb flu" where you are detoxing from carbohydrate.
This can take a couple of weeks for some people. It may be easier to ease yourself in by lowering your carb content a bit more slowly.. just a thought

The last month I have cut down on calories massively. I entered Keto fairly easily after 3 days, but it was agony for my brain and body from then. I was wondering what other people's experiences were.

Both. For the last few weeks I have had very little carbs because they have affected me so badly. I got into ketosis quite easily, it just didn't go well once I got there.

What carbs do you eat in a day now?

I'm confused.. you say you started keto last week but then you also say you have had very few carbs for the last few weeks?
Also what are the problems you had after the 3 days?
How many grams of carbs do you reckon you are having each day?
Do you keep a food diary (its especially useful at the start).
Sorry about the interrogation but I'm interested in the problems you are having.. also eating every 4 hours probably isn't such a great idea...you will be triggering an insulin response of some kind even when eating keto.

thats a very limited diet. you going to be low in some vitamins the proper diet should consist of
  • animals (especially a “whole animal” approach, including organs, bone marrow, cartilage, and organs),
  • animal products (such as eggs or honey), well not honey obviously
  • vegetables and fruits, limited fruit
  • raw nuts and seeds,
  • and added fats (like coconut oil, avocado, butter, ghee)
you totally missing plant based foods.this is going to be a reason your not well. have a look at this web site it may help. http://thepaleodiet.com/what-to-eat-on-the-paleo-diet-paul-vandyken/

There is no need for a very low carb diet to contain any food other than fatty meat. I like green veg, nets, fish, olive, avocado, butter etc, therefore I eat them. Meat has all the vitamins people need. Remember a lot of the "goodness" of vegetables is only needed to protect our body from carbs.

As to "keto flu" some people find they get a lot better if they have a little more salt, e.g. a stock cube in a mug of not water two times a day.

You are confusing ketogenic with paleo.. they are not the same thing although there are some similarities.

I started Keto for 3 days last week then gave up. Around those three days I had basically been eating less carbs.

So youu advice very little food even fats?

No I would advocate eating fewer meals.. I tend to eat twice per day but eat quite a lot for those meals.
I don't have breakfast just lunch and dinner.
I eat very few carbs but quite a lot of protein and fats.
When trying a ketogenic way of eating (it's not really a "diet") I wouldn't recommend even thinking about calories just keep carbs very low (fewer than 20g per day). After a couple of weeks you can start tweaking your protein and fat macros but it is far more useful to get used to eating very few carbs in the first weeks.
