How long to leave between meals?

On an average day where im just at my desk I leave 3-4 hours between meals minimum, that way you reduce the chance of stacking the insulin.

I will have the odd snack below 10g carb so I don't need any insulin for it.

If your basal is set correctly your BG won't drop usually.

Some situations I will require a snack, things like exercise. That's because I know from experience my BG will drop

Interesting question, me personally I'll have a snack in the mornings but rarely in the afternoons, i generally have 4-6hrs between meals depending on weather its a work day or weekend/holiday.

As far as i can see its a personal choice and how comfortable your feel doing if that's the way go.

i went onto a diet where i was eating every 2 hours but eating small meals some with carbs others not. i asked what the best course of action would be for my insulin and sugar readings as none of my readings would be a "true" reading due to having insulin still working in my ssytem every time i was eating. i got no advice of the best way to deal with it all the advice i was given was "that will be difficult to manage"............ end of the day you can eat when ever you want to eat just be aware that insulin is in your system for 4 hours so any readin in that time will change with the insulin working.

would be easy if you had all of your ratios set and kept an ey on your sugars if they started to go up a little bit. end of the day the more i eat the more i test just to make sure its not climbin up to high.

hope this helps a little/any

I'm on pump and as such we haven't got a background insulin working... However my consultant told me I should try and have 5 hours between meals so that the affects of bolus (injections or pump) could be seen, and that quick acting insulin wouldnt stack up in body.

Personally, I find 5 hours is good for me.

5 hours  i'm always hungry just now for some reason, must be gettin ready for the winter

When testing basal, ratios etc every now and then I do leave 4~5 hours between meals. Usually will have snacks 2 hours ish after meals. If 10~15 carbs no insulin, usually needed, if larger I do insulate but manually deduct 1 unit off the bolus suggestion as I would have two lots of insilin working.
