hello everybody
i was diagnosed a week ago with type 2 so everything is still pretty over whelming to me at the moment ive been reading a few post through out the forum and im very interested in a low carb diet and wondered how many carbs are we supposed to eat each day, is there a limit and does it work like that as surly if carbs make you high how are u supposed to eat them are you supposed to cut them out all together....im also trying to work out what sort of foods make my reading high so wondered what would be the best time to test after a meal ive heard 2 hours and 3 hours any information would be brilliant

You'll have to find this out for yourself by trial and error and testing

The amount of carbs each one of us can tolerate is different. When you can eat a certain number of carbs per day and still remain in control of your blood sugar levels then you have found the right formula. It is all very much a question of eating and testing initially till you find which foods affect your blood sugar levels.

Hey Sue and or Ken or any other knowledgeable worthy :D
The OP asks when should she test? ( i.e. how long after her meals ). This is something I was wondering about too, as I have read 2hours on here and then on other sites, 1 hour, 90 minutes, all sorts of times :? I know it can sometimes depend on what you are eating but I'd like to know when is best to test too. Thank you

A lot depends on the availability of test strips for type 2's.
When you first start out then test on waking, before and after breakfast, before and after dinner, before and after your evening meal and before you go to bed.
The 2hourly test after meals is suggested here to avoid the confusion that newly diagnosed are suffering.
Once your food diary is starting to make sense and you can see patterns emerging and you have the test strips you need then you can also test 1 hour after meals. There are some foods that will not show the rise until after the 2 hours, maybe 3 or 4 or even longer as the fat content of the meal has slowed down your digestion.
As so many type 2's are having to fund their own test strips you can see what a costly exercise this is for them.
Hope this hasn't confused you more.

Spot on Catherine. :D

Do you know if there is something in the air today....some very odd people about elsewhere....
