How many carbs a day?

Hi, I'm a relative newb but it seems to differ person to person, I think the answer is, whatever works for your bg and or weight loss and or medication reduction, I'm on 30g ish a day, sorry this isn't very definitive :)

Hello

I am type 1 and looking at the low carb diets How many carbs a day is low carb??

Depends where you look, some would say low-carb is below 30 (as in a Bernstein diet) as where others may say below 50 is low-carb, many on the forum like myself say it doesn't matter as long as your eating below the RDA, read around and find what works for you is the best approach.

Today for instance
6am
Fage natural yogurt with five blackberries and 2 strawberries chopped up with a sprinkle of milled flax
10am
Atkins bar (chocolate decadence)
1pm
Salad with boiled egg
3pm
small handful of salted almonds
6pm
Homemade spaghetti bolognaise minus the spaghetti
2 jellies with double cream
1 ewelinas bounty truffles home made by yours truly (yum)

Haven't counted the carbs but when I do I'm normally around 30, sometimes 50 sometimes 20

There is no defined limit on the number of carbs. The key is to avoid all the typical carb foods such as bread, rice, pasta, potato, fruit, cereal etc. A good start would be to buy Richard Bernstein's Diabetes Diet book, it contains all the guidelines you will need, but it is a bit strict with the mealtime carb prescriptions

I agree with Sam!! I read the book and follow low carb. Today I've had a total of 18 carbs, lots of protein though. I average 20 and occasionally 30.

Wow thanks for all the info. My downfall is definitely bread pasta and cereal! Thank you for letting me know what you've had!
I will take a look at the book too
Thanks again
