Have a look at
Viv's Modifed Atkins Diet - it's a Sticky Thread in the Low-carb section.
It's the diet I use, and I find it very successful in controlling my blood glucose, lowering my blood pressure and improving my cholesterol/lipid profile. It also gives me energy and makes me feel good!

I find it very easy to use - first time around I lost 5.5 stone in 18 months. This time it's been 60lb in the same time frame, as I'm taking it slower and haven't been as strict as I should (too much wine!

- it stops the fat loss).
However, my blood glucose levels are now usually within non-diabetic levels, my BP is down (122/78) and my lipid profile is excellent - it works for me. Weight loss has been a secondary issue, I've been focused on the others this time.
If you follow the diet strictly, you'll be taking in 25g or less of carb per day. This is too low for some people. Buy yourself a carb counter book (Collins have a handy-sized one in their
Gem series) and add on extra carbs from low-carb veg and fruit. It takes very little time to get used to what you can and can't eat. Use your meter to test to see what effect different foods have on your BGS.
Some people can lose weight very successfully on less than 100g carb per day. I have to go lower than that. Maybe you should aim for a level of about 75g per day and see if it works for you. You can always go lower if you need to.
Hope this helps.
