Type of diabetes
Type 2
I am measuring 3 times a day usually

1. Fasting
2. After lunch ( this also give me idea on my work out schedule)
3. Post dinner which us usually before bed .

I am T2 taking insulin (3 units bf , 2 unit pre-dinner and Amryl .5 mg)

on wake up
before after breakfast
same lunch
dinner
and when out driving

Wake up: not usually. Because I'm young and I know exactly that my BG in the morning won't raise to much.

After lunch or dinner or once I think I overeat. I measure to know my body respond to the food I eat.
But it usually under control with the non-diabetic level.

because your young, does that mean i am .........

I'm on 4 injections of insulin now and before they changed me to it I was on two and I was taking 100 units between them and I had to test before each meal as I do now and I go through some needles just to do it and test strips and I know that when I get up my sugars are high and they are all day but it is until I get the right amount of insulin in my injections that I won't be needing to test as much as I am a T2 and I don't eat that much and they are around the teens the high end so until I get the right insulin I will be testing before each meal

I am Type 2 - on 40 units Humulin i (Insulin) plus 4 x 500mg Metformin, plus 5mg Dapagliflozin daily. And I check blood sugars 6 times a day. (Well, most days!)
Test:
Fasting. Before Lunch and Evening Meal. After Lunch and Evening Meal. And before Bed.

Fasting and before lunch, dinner, and just before bedtime. I will also test at 1 and 2 hours if I eat something out of the ordinary. I also test ketones before bed.

I was doing half a dozen a day then three a day then once a day and then now and again just to make sure I still have it under control. I have it under amazing control and my carbs have almost become the same as anyone else I'm eating with. Obvious sugar is out of my life as are the obvious loaded items but I'm managing spuds okay smaller sizes of rice. Pasta is a bit risky but I think I'm almost over this thing.

I measure blood sugars a few times a week just to check if I am still on target.

I test on waking, and just before bed and if I am trying something new. I can cook my favourite LCHF meals on auto pilot now. I have a good list of vegies, meats, cheeses and snacky things like nuts and just mix and match the ingredients for lunch and dinner.

On metformin measure in the morning right after waking up .
Initially I did measure also right before a meal and also 1 hour after or 2 hours later depending on How fast spiking carbs I ate . Now I mostly measure blood glucose when I have been eating What I find is too many carbs in 1 meal . In my case more than 40grams of carbs or more . Because of my weightloss and very much exercise it seems I many times can eat that amount almost without a spike and usually be lower in one hour than 6.5 mmol. And in bad situations under 7.5 mmol . Lately I have two days experienced a much raised morning blood glucose for no actual reason . Still dont know why But Think now I must have had a virus or have been ill without noticing . Actually I do Think I am in remision. But will keep taking care and getting fitter it really pays healthwise if one can do that ... This night after eating both 2 Big potatoes and two candy "cream- tops" with sugar like around 30grams so all in all like 150 grams carbs and my number was only 6 mmol both 1 hour and 2 hours after.

in remision well except from that I am still on metformin

That's cool , my rationale behind asking frequency of testing was to understand ,am i going over the board or taking it lightly ... my BG's are pretty stable as i am on very low Carb and follow my exercise and med regime quite religiously ...my last h1c in March 17 was 5.8 (in dec 16 it was 11.5 so i crushed it literally i feel;-) ) ..and have never spiked greater than 8.0 since then..i hope i am also in remission taking very small dose of insulin to give pancreas a rest ...

On insulin and currently prone to hypos so
I test 7-9 times. Also I want to give my diabetic team as much info as possible as about to change insulin regime.
Once things more settled I'd like to test 4-5times. ;)

I'm 5 weeks out of surgery and my sugars are weirded out by exercise so at the mo 10/12 times per day. Pre surgery 3-5 times depending how much I was feeling in control. I dont think there is a right or wrong number of times its about me getting a grip on my blood sugars. In my life I've made this a priority. At first I was a bit confused by the diabetic nurse telling me to test a few times a week. It wasnt enough for me to really understand the condition but it took me some real time to get to the point well I felt it was OK to test when I should, rather than what I was told to do!!

I test most days on waking. I also test post-prandial if I've eaten something unusual.
I'm blessed in having caught my diabetes early. I'm on a single metformin tablet daily and follow LCHF. When I behave myself my fasting levels average around 5.1. When I don't behave myself it's another story .. ;)
