How much basal insulin are you taking?

Hi All,

I use an app to help keep track of my bg readings and insulin intake.

So, I was curious as to how much basal insulin everyone takes?

What would be considered a lot?

My app also gives me a percentage of how much my daily insulin is basal and bolus.

I take 23 units of Lantus currently, although i might be putting that up a couple of units soon.

Quick acting/bolus - depending on CP really. Max I have taken is 11U and minimum units I have taken for a meal is 4U

Long acting/basal I take a split dose - 30U in the morning and 19U in the evening

Hi - I was taking 24 units of Lantus (split dose) but now on a pump. Basal is now around 17 units. Which app do you use please?

Hi!
I use an app called mysugr.
It has an insulin calculator on it too. You put in your bg and how many carbs you are going to eat and it tells you how much insulin to take.

Its not for everyone but it works very well for me!

20 atm, fluctuates dependin on how lazy I am though.

I use 3 apps plus S Heath. S Health to figure out carbs etc. I then use the carbs in my Aviva Connect Bolus advisor to suggest units of NovaRapid based on my meals I'm about to eat. I then test my sugar after Meal at 2 hours. That is wirelessly sent to my GAlaxy Note 5 Aviva Connect app. I also use My Sugar and Diabetes M apps.
This AM I had Steak, fried eggs, home fries, brown toast and a glass of tomato juice.
I injected 28 u NovoRaoud. BG at 2 hours 5.8.
70 U Lantus at 9 PM.
I take as much as 36 U NovoRapid .

Hi, I'm taking 23 units Lantus before bed at the moment, but I do vary the amount if low or high.

Was started on 8u of Levemir originally (am and pm), now up to 22 in the morning, and 24 at night.
Did change my times though, so 8am, and 10pm. Seems to work better for me than the 12 hour split.

Newly diagnosed, started on 15u levemir every morning.

I take 10 units of Levemir before bed, If I am under 5.0 before bed, then I will take 9 units.

34 units of Levemir once a day
Hi @JRW
Just out of curiosity, were you informed to only inject Levemir once daily, or did you decide it was best for yourself?
Do you do it AM or PM, and does it keep you steady through the 24 hours?

16-18 units of basal a day during work days. Upto 23 at the weekend because of increased DP due to eating more protein or if I skip the gym.

I was told to when diagnosed, and informed that the last couple of hrs my BG will likely rise as it drops off. Knowing that I give an extra unit or two of bolus when I take the Levemir just to account for it, and I usually take my Levemir at the time I have my evening meal. To be honest there is no way I'd be able to manage two Levemir injections a day, I'm bad enough at being able to do one a day at the same time, never mind managing two. I travel a lot, different time zones etc, and don't have a regular work day as such, it's all pretty dynamic. Works for me I guess, but as I've not had a HBA1C in about 2 years I'm kinda guessing that.
