How much insulin do you use?

Hi Lorri

I have been on insulin for just over 40 years and have always been skinny, so there's no guarantee you'll put on weight. It probably depends on your body type - I guess I'm an ectomorph and there's nothing I can do to change that ;)

Hi mep73 and Robert72 :-) , thankyou for your replies, I guess I will soon see, but knowing me I will be quite strict with my diet so I am hoping I'll be ok, the thing that gets me is that when you have low blood sugar levels you have to eat? sometimes when you're not even hungry? this will go against anything I have ever done. I have watched my diet and exercise most days, so my life before diabetes was counting calories, I managed things quite well and my weight was stable, but now I am told I can't count calories and it confuses the hell out of me lol. It's all a learning curve, but I am a very impatient person, need to know everything yesterday lol, also need to be in control. Blimey, I sound like a right nutter reading that back!

Hi Lorri

I usually only take glucose if I go too low. Each tablet raises my BS by 1 mmol/l so it's quite controlled and not like eating large amounts of food (even if I feel I want to at the time ;) )

One of the annoying things about diabetes is going hypo and having to eat, I think this was the cause of my weight increase when my bg was swinging from high to low.

I don't know how has told you that you can't count calories as this isn't true, if your weight was stable before using this approach then there's no reason why you can't again.
