I was really trying this week to cut my food intake right down and get even more of a work out so I could lose some weight and get better control of my diabetes and everything else my body chucks at me...

so straight away I get another cold, I don't normally get these, But I am on a pretty much continous course of colds and flu since last august!!!
2 flu jabs included!
so that along with ice on the road and me ending up in bed feeling awful has put pay to my exercise.....my new years note to myself after much therapy is to not be so hard on myself...cut myself some slack!!!!

so yesterday the dr put me on some steroids (low dose) to reduce inflammation in my chest to help with the cough.....I was told they may increase my bloods...well...honestly how could I tell...my sugars are volatile and hard to control at the best of times.

my family say that I should stop being so hard on myself...but it has taken over my life.....and probably has for a very long time....

so this morning I wake up with moderate to high levels of ketones in my urine......I set about dealing with that immediatly...I had a sleepless night with feeling like I had a urine infection....but not......so I upped my insulin to avoid a hospital trip..

levemir from 22 to 26 ( i take 22 in the evening also...but have not yet increased that one).
corrected my blood of 10 by taking 2 novorapid. then took 2 units for 10 g with my breakfast.

several hours of sleeping later my blood was 8.....yipeee! then another hour late it was 7.8!!!!wonderful....for me thats amazing!!!
so I had some lunch and did the same novorapid dosing....

to get to my point for now......I guess I am always reluctant to increase my insulin too much....as when I used to have a diabetic team...they always told me I was on too much insulin...and I'd get big as a house...

so I live years of struggling to get control of the poor sugars......failing miserably...

so now I have gained more weight....not really sure why....I am on metformin, prozac and thyroxine.

I am 5ft 6" and weigh 14 1/2stone........its not comfortable .....i hate being like this....I want to get good health......i want to lose weight.......but haven't yet found a solution....any new thoughts?

please

Looking at your medication,

Don't know anything really about Prozac, but the Thyrorine well I do know about that, as I too have underactive thyroid..

Underactive thyroid can make blood sugar difficult to control, and it can make weight loss difficult as well, so you need to ensure that you are on the correct dose of thyroxine that is controlling your underactive thryoid, this should help matters in both cases..

You don't say whether you are carb counting, so that you match your insulin to carbs you eat, which is the most effective method of controling blood sugars but also avoiding weight gains... As a lot of diabetics will actually gain weight due to feeding the insulin that they are injecting rather than matching what they eat with insulin... I would enquire whether your diabetic clinic provides the DAFNE or similar carb counting cause and ask to attend this...

As to beating yourself up too much, sometimes taking a step back and relaxing a little can be good, as yes some can get themselves into right old pickles trying too hard, but must admit it's very dependant on the individual, but sometimes worth a try to see what happens..

thanks for the reply.

I have done my old clinics version of the DAFNE. about 7 or 8 years ago.

I do not have contact with that team anymore...its information was getting outdated and unhelpful.

I am not able to join another group. there is not one anywhere near to where I live and because of the post code thing...I cannot travel to another one and be accepted. I have tried.

I match my insulin to my carb intake.

so at times when trying another burst at losing weight when regular healthy eating is still NOT working, eating salads and cutting carbs as much as i can, doesn't seem to help with anything but make me hungry and miserable!!

have been told I could possibly be on the outside edge of asthma. not so much so to be diagnosed. when ever I have done the blow into the tube test, I fail miserable and am been told I'm not trying hard enough.

I seem to be on the right dose for the thyroid. although I have found out that being on the higher dose end that your body needs can make you feel better and things work better over all.....but this does not seem to be the general opinion of the average dr.

have you found this at all?

exactly whats been said ,
i also have an under active thyroid and have been on prozac, prozac can cause a slightly higher bs,
i went quite low carb and got better control and lost weight,
it is definately worth a try :D

Hi Megan, all advice so far is spot on, low carbing could help both your BG control and your weight loss quest! I personally find that having a good support network for losing weight is vital, feel free to PM me for tips/ideas - I'm not actually losing weight any more (had some baby weight to lose a few years ago, but I've kept it off, phew!) but I still do maintenance so we could do it together :D

thank you so much for your responses..I really appreciate the support,

I have reduced my carbs and calories..I have walked more and more....I've been adjusting my insulin a little.....

not shifted any weight!!!! dissapointed!!!!.....feel lousy about it all....do you think coming off the prozac will help?

my days are not my own, I can't function for a full day....its ruling my whole life and has been for years......I've just discovered its ok to say that out loud somewhere!!!!!!!!!
