Hi i wonder if anyone can help me here, i am type 2 and as such i have been told by the nurse at my doctors, that i dont need to test every day, so i have been really careful about what i eat and upped my excercise regime over the summer and lost 3 stone in weight and feel tremendous.

But....

my doctor will not issue me with any test strips, i have had a box of 50 last me from march till september, and went in for some strips in september, and was told as i am on repeat prescription, i needed to come in for a diabetic review, so i booked an appointment for my bloods which took us through till october and then last week they rang to give me my results appointment which is the 28th of November, so i STILL have no strips for testing, and they wont give me any. Now i dont mind not having to test everyday if i dont feel rough, but when i do want to test i should have the strips.

does anybody know how many you are legally allowed.

Depends on your GP and if he/she feels you will make good use of them. I don't think some GPs think it is worthwhile prescribing strips to type 2s.
You could always buy them yourself from your pharmacy, usually expensive  Or try buying direct from the manufacturer of your test machine.
You could also try eBay, that is how I started testing.

A lot of doctors just won't prescribe them for T2s on diet only.

In Scotland, the guidelines (SIGN) tell them not to.

You sound as though you are doing well though, especially losing the weight. keep it up!

HI Dougie thanks for that, as regards losing the weight, i was geting up to the 21 stone mark, and i wasn't going there, so back in March i decided to buy a bike, and over two or three months, i lost 3 stone down to 17, 7lb, but then i put a little bit back on over the last 2 months and start of this week i was back to 18,9lb.
had a week off work this week and punished myself early part of the week, but got a 30 miler under my belt yesterday and feel belting for it, my legs are back to strength, but i punished my nether regions with the saddle.. LOL i will keep at it and get lower than 17stone this time. Do you know i actually feel alive again, when i have been on the bike my blood sugers are around 5.5 to 6 constantly its only when the weight goes back on i have trouble controlling them

I've lost about 2st 8 lb since diagnosis at Easter and I'm going to the gym three times a wek (mostly).

I too feel really well for it and really miss it when I don't go for any length of time.

Plateaued weight wise over the summer but hoping to get back into the zone from now to Christmas.
