I admit I'm a bit of a gadget freak, so you can imagine the new scope the big D has given me to feed a whole new range of gadgets and toys. Every cloud has a silver lining?

Thus far I have collected:

- A couple of meters
- BP monitor, with memory
- Body Composition Monitor (or posh scales, if you prefer)
- A julienne peeler to create for courgette “pasta”

I would love to have a go with a CGM for a period of time, to really understand my body, but that's a significant investment and I don't want to go completely overboard.

Now, I'm sure I'm missing a few tricks here for more “essentials” for the T2 around town. What do you have, and what would you really like?

When I started forgetting to take the pills I bought a pill box with a clock in it which beeps. When you open it to take the pills out it stops beeping.

I can't think of anything else I want in the diabetes department.

I've had so many meters I can't recall the names of them all, being type 1 the medicine cupboard is well full with needles, sharps bin and bg pen lancets, apart from that I have bp monitor and a set of kitchen scales for weighing my carbs, would love a CGM but the cost is a big No No.

Next to my meter, my smartphone is the gadget I find most useful in managing my diabetes .
- I keep records of blood counts , weight, meals eaten and exercise undertaken on it.

- I also use it to track and time my walking sessions as well as as a pedometer.

- I have set it up to prompt me when it's time to take medication and last but not least it gives me access to this site.

I have just invested in a pill organizer/dispenser as, taking pills has become so automatic, that often I do it without thinking and then five minutes later I am left wondering whether I took them or not! :-)

Because of my diagnosis, I have been able to justify treating myself to an ipad mini hehe. It is great for keeping up with the forum, searching carb values, recipes etc. I'd be lost without it now.

This week's essential purchase...jelly moulds
