How to get started?

Hi Guys, I'm new around here, so go easy! Haha
Ive been type 1 nearly 7 years, and followed the 'brilliant' dietary advice, and never been happy with my blood sugars.
Ive done weeks of research in to Low Carb Diets, but still don't know where & how to start. Help?

Levemir & Novorapid insulin.

Hi Nick,
I'm a T1 of 9 years and made the switch 8 months ago. Never had better results, my HbA1c is now in the 6s and I have a few mild hypos per month, compared to a few a week. Stick to it, it really works.

Best place to get started is to buy 2 books: Richerd Bernstein's Diabetes Diet. He's a bit hard-core with his carb prescriptions of 6g for breakfast, 12 for lunch and 12 for dinner. It's a good start though. Also, buy Karen Banaby's Low Carb Gourmet, it's got loads of really good low carb recipes.

The key is to avoid wheat (bread, pasta etc.), rice, potato and any other form of carbs that you can think of. Keep posting any questions that you have.

It will give you a better HbA1c, I guarantee it!

Speak to your dsn's and get enrolled on Bertie or it's equlivent my HbA1c had been high for years since doing that an getting a pump my level is now 7

It says in your post that your on levimir and Novorapid, is that right? I'm on basal bolus. Your body is very clever and will produce small amounts of glucose from the food you eat. So you will still need Novorapid, I take between 3 and 5 units of Novorapid.

In Bernstein's book he says the amount of insulin that enters your blood stream varies by 30%, so the smaller amount you inject, the smaller the variability and you get fewer highs. I now get a couple of highs a month, used to get them nearly every day when I was on carbs.

Keep posting questions on here, there's loads of good advice going round!
