How to lower before breakfast's BM result.

I suffer from metabolic syndrome and trying to record my BM before/ after meals. I have noted that the before breakfast results were slightly high from 6.4-6-7 mml. Regards.

There is a special pre diabetes section on this forum where you can get in touch with others who are dealing with metabolic syndrome. The fasting phase ( i.e the reading taken after a night's sleep ) is the one that I have trouble with. I was diagnosed with impaired fasting glycaemia and then type 2 ). I am sometimes in the late 5s .... 5.8/5.9 but more often in the early 6s.

I try very hard to limit my carbohydrate intake to approx 50g a day as I find that this food group impacts upon my blood sugar quite strongly.

I try to eat more at lunch and less at dinner.

And just before bed I have a tiny glass of full cream milk. ( some people think this can quieten down what's known as the dawn phenomenon - the liver deciding you haven't eaten lately and that you need a bit of spare glucose! It can be responsible for raising your fasting readings.)

I also make sure I do at least 30 mins exercise every day.

Of course, everyone is different and what works for some may not work for others so it's really a case of becoming your own little science experiment and testing how different foods impact on your sugars. 6.0 is apparently a good target - and you are not too far from that.

I have now ceased to test first thing in the morning as it is rarely below 7. But it goes down quite quickly after breakfast when I will usually record less than 7 at 2 hours and more often less than 6.5. I think that the frustration of not being able to reduce it is not worth it. :D
