Hi all
I know this may sound a stupid question but when checking labels how to I read the carb content. I always look at the sugars but I know even if low in sugar the carb could be high.
Also when it comes to bread which is the best to buy if any?
Thank you

You check carbohydrates (not sugars). Sugars only are not really relevant to us as all carbs will turn into glucose anyway.
As for bread you can bake your own low carb bread or buy some protein rolls (Lidl) or low carb bread (LivLife)

If you're in the UK it's the total carb content including any sugars that you should look at. In the USA they have slightly different nutritional labelling and need to deduct any fibre from the total carbs content to get NET carbs.

There are various threads recommending a number of lower carb breads, but I agree with the others that it's definitely best to make your own! And there are plenty of recipes around for low carb breads.

What is the secret to baking bread. I have tried many times with different recipes and they always turn out like rocks. I followed the recipes but never successful. So frustrating, but must say I do bake very nice cakes and muffins.

Letting it rise sufficiently. Some of them can be a bit slow. Cook in the hottest oven available for about 25 minutes. That usually works for me.

I just looked at a prepared mix in a packet and it is nothing like the above. I suggest following the instructions on the packet if you buy it readymix.

That packet of readymix is about £16 per kilo. I don't think I can afford much of that.
