How to reduce BG Readings

Hi, I was diagnosed in May this year with a reading of 8.9. I have been following a low carb diet and bought myself a meter. I have constantly kept my BG reading between 5-6. I fell off the wagon last weekend with 2 parties and not very good food choices. Despite sticking with low carb (50gm) daily since Sunday, I cannot get my readings below 7.9. I have been swimming every day and going to the Gym. How long does a BAD weekend normally take to get out of your system?

It varies for all of us, unfortunately. But it is pretty depressing to find that a single weekend of high jinks can affect you for weeks afterwards. :(

Are the readings you are quoting fasting readings from first thing in the morning, or are they all your readings, before and after food throughout the day?

It does seem to vary with me quite significantly - but bread seems to be the worse offender for getting me high and keeping me there for the best part of a week no matter what I do afterwards! Cake seems less detrimental and I'm usually back to normal quite quickly... maybe Marie Antoinette knew something we didn't! Bananas are fine for me as long as it's on a long walk. I'm not had rice or pasta for months, so not aware of what that may do at the moment.

I'm aware I'm walking much more as I'm off work until the end of the month, and there is less food temptation of any variety at home, so that may also be contributing to my current very even keel,

My readings have been between 7.2 & 7.9 constantly, test 1st thing, before and after food, and before bed - the figures have hardly changed for 3 days.

I think you are stuck with time and good behavior ;) It will come down, you know what to do as you have been doing it.
