How to stop weight loss?

Just caught up with your update, Red_river_; it appears you have a 'switched-on' GP there, knows their stuff and willing to listen and discuss; not many of them about - definitely a 'keeper' ! :)
I know I was lucky to be seen by this GP, as an emergency case as all other appointments were gone already. Funny enough I never ever seen her before or even know the name. She is not one of the usual doctors at this GP as guess. I was thrilled when she offered the " fancy" test as someon here says doctors don't often offer it at all..

If you feel sick go to A&E as there is a risk of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), read up on the symptoms on line so you know what to look out for. (I say A&E as they have the machine to do the blood gas test, that GPs don’t have access do. Tell the person on reception you think you may have DKA.)

Also get yourself a BG meter as quickly as you can, so you can test your own BG if you feel sick etc (there is no real risk of DKA unless your BG is over 20 for some time, or over 30, assuming you are not taking any SGLT2 Inhibitors).
Thanks for your advice Ringi, it's good to know. I don't feel sick at all, just feel like I have little strength that's all. I will have to think seriously about getting a meter. At the moment I don't take any medication, just try to control bg by dieting.

Metformin is low risk, and most people find the side effects stop after the first week or two, given all of its benefits I am happy to take it for the rest of my life unless I start to get the side effects. Maybe ask GP doctor about it the next time you see them.

(However, unless you have issues with controlling your weight or high insulin resistance Metformin will not help you if you turn out to be Type1.)

DN nurse said depends on result of my next blood test to decide whether I will need Metformin. I think that is why I try really hard to control my bg by dieting, not wanting to take medications for the rest of my life. Now with this weight loss there's a question if I am even type 2. Little I can do now but keep on dieting and wait for the test.

Hi all, how do I stop losing weight?? I am devastated to see myself in the mirror this morning when getting out of bed! Nothing but skin and bones... Since 1st November ( fist diagnosed - 8.7 stone) till now I have lost 18 pounds. I was 7.10 stone 2 weeks ago and now my weight has gone down even further to 7.1 stone. I am wasting away!!

What do I do to stop this?? Shall I wait to see DN in 2 weeks or shall I ask to see a GP?? All I do is to cut carbs out of my used to be carbs heavy diet.. Please help me!!
I am thin to begin with and was losing weight also when I went to very low carb after being vegan (very high carb) and diagnosed with pre diabetes. I started pouring olive oil on everything and eating nuts 4 times a day in addition to my regular meals which are now high protein --chicken and fish and vegetables and salads with small portions of carbs. The above seems to have helped my high cholesterol too. Olive oil has a lot of calories and is very healthy. I hope this might help you because I understand--I became very panicky and depressed about the weight loss and diet. It still is frustrating to have to eliminate so much but at least I'm no longer losing so much weight.

Hi I have been told by diabetic nurse that I don’t need to test my blood sugars and that I must always assume it is high
I’m type 2

Hi Red_River_ You said in a previous post 'My weight loss started only since I started low carbs diet, before that I was fine with a healthy weight'
I'm a Type 1 and have never been overweight, and exactly the same happened to me when I went Low Carb about a year and half ago. I went from a very high carb diet to a Low carb diet (now only 50g of carb per day max) and the weight just fell away (about 20lbs) and I went below the BMI 'normal' range.
Until it occurred to me - hang on, I've cut out the energy (calories) derived from carbs+insuline but I'm not replaced it with anything, so my body is using its fat reserves to keep me operational - hence the weight loss. So I started eating twice as much low carb/high calorie foods (cheese, eggs, bacon, beef etc.) and my weight slowly returned to where I want it to be.
So I now calorie count as well as carb count to make sure I'm getting enough calories from the low carb foods, while making sure I don't go overboard on high carb stuff. You can do a BMI check online (NHS website) to find out how many calories you need per day for your height, gender, and lifestyle.
Hope it is this simple for you too, but as others have said, other thing can cause these symptoms so I would definitely continue with your GP.
