How to treat hypo when feeling nauseous is a major symptom?

Hi everyone, been a bit since I was on here, my last post was me on a borderline Kidney infection/DKA. I did, as predicted, end up in hospital for 11 days, and with the usual DKA regime and I/V antibiotics recovered well.
My short acting insulin has now been changed from Novorapid to Humalog, and I've noticed a HUGE difference! My levels are excellent now, par reoccurring hypos in the evening which we are trying to combat by making slight decreases in my pre-meal and levemir units.

Thing is, my levels are tending to dip in the evening and often waking me up in the early hours of the morning. I never used to have hypo awareness so am pleased with that aspect, but am once again faced with another challenge (the never ending story of a diabetic!).

When I hypo, I get really nauseous. To the point where I'm struggling to swallow some flat full sugar coke or suck on a Dextro tab. I did speak to my DN today, who shrugged it off and said passively 'Yeah, that's a symptom of a hypo, nothing you can do.'

Does anyone else find this? What do you have when hypoing? Or do you just battle through it?

Sorry for the essay once again, guys! TSP xxx

When I have had that feeling with a hypo I usually just take the usual Dextro Tabs or quick 'slug' of Locozade then lie down or sit in a recliner or similar for 15 - 20 mins.

As the Bg level rises the nausea usually passes too. Sucking a barley sugar sweet also can help. Don't overdo the treatment though, or the sweets !!

Sometimes i feel sick too when hypo, and usually treating a hypo makes that feeling worse as im eating something sweet which im not really used to anymore!

I usually have glucotabs when im out and about, easy to carry, if not then lucozade does it for me.

I'm glad your doing well after swapping insulin :)

I've lost my hypo awareness and often find that feeling nautious is the first symptom. Quite often this will pass within a few mins of having some juice or whatever I am using to treat the hypo, (then I will get a proper munch on) but I have found that a still sugary drink is best, eg fruit juice and I just down this to get me out of hypo land. Fizzy drinks like lucozade I've found less easy to drink when I am nautious as it's harder to just chuck em down. Also if I'm feeling like this i can find it quite hard to munch glucose sweets. Usually the nautious feeling passes quite quick.... then I can eat everything and anything! :D
