Hi,my query is... can I switch my Childs outpatients diabetes appointments for the Hbac1 to another hospital? and if so... would I have a new diabetic team for her or would I still have the same diabetic nurses connected to our current hospital? also is it possible to go private for paediatric diabetes or do we have to stay with our local hospital. thanks
Hi,
From my adult experience with this sort of thing.
I live slap bang between two hospitals. One in Somerset, The other Wiltshire. For the last few years I’ve had appointments with the same endo & they’ve called the shots @ which hospital..
I can’t say I’ve ever seen the same nurses there..
If you are concerned about the actual blood sample taken for your child’s A1c..
To confuse matters even more. I get mine done (along with urine sample.) at my local GP surgery just down the road, by a DSN who sends the results when they come back to the endo.?
If your child is more comfortable at the GPs…? You could get it done there..? (Worth an enquiry.)
HI jaylee Im so glad you commented because I truly thought you had to go to outpatients for the Hba1c at least that's what we've been told. Can they do it at the doctors for children? I just read on JDRF that the hba1c is not accurate for preteens anyway. We would prefer the GP, currently we have to attend outpatients once every 3 months for then next 8yrs we've been toldHi,

To the best of my knowledge at my surgery there seems to always be a pediatric specialist taking in kids with a parent in attendance whilst I'm in the waiting room..HI jaylee Im so glad you commented because I truly thought you had to go to outpatients for the Hba1c at least that's what we've been told. great info thanks very muchYou have a choice of which hospital you (or your child) is referred to. Your GP makes the referral, and you will probably have to discuss wanting the change with the GP. It might mean travelling much further, depending where in the country you live.
Secondary care services (such as paediatric diabetes services) will not see you if you turn up un-referred.
