hi
So I am going to NYC for a week in a months time and in choosing hotels I been asking them about the mini bars in the rooms. Majority of them say the mini bars dont go as low as 40 degrees F or lower and I can keep the humalog insulin in the staff fridge. Do most people not risk keeping it in hotel staff fridge and just keep AC on and hope it does not get too hot? haha
or would minibar be fine even though it does not go to 43F or below?
Thank

I would simply use a Frio pouch to keep my insulin at room temperature instead of risking freezing in the mini bar or losing in the hotel fridge.
Insulin keeps for a month at least at room temperature according to the manufacturers, you're only away for a week, there is no need to cool your insulin.

I do not trust hotel fridges.
But that is not an issue because insulin last a month at room temperature and is recommended to be injected at room temperature.
There is no need to keep it below 40 degrees.
I would definitely not put my insulin in a staff fridge where it is outside my control.

yeah thats true but advise is un-opened vials should be stored at fridge temperature
is that not accurate?
This is only because you can store insulin for over a year in the fridge unopened.
An unused vial will keep outside the fridge for at least a month just like an open one would.

Whenever I go to see my parents (400 miles away) I never put my insulin in the fridge it’s always in my bag ,along with all my other paraphernalia, my insulin pen is always in my pocket and never had a problem , in my opinion I wouldn’t worry it should be fine

I understand where @Nekromantik is coming from. Yes the insulin in daily use doesn’t need to go anywhere near a fridge and Frio pouches are fine. But spares for emergencies that will eventually be in use but not for over a month in normal circumstances, should be kept in a fridge. For someone like me who always takes spares, but takes very small doses, so is slow to get through a vial, this is an issue.
I discard Tresiba after 4 weeks of use due to its efficacy levels, but there will be at least half left. So am unlikely to use a spare whilst away.
