Hey guys just started taking this as been diagnosed with type 1 and I take 20 units a day in the morning but by the time it is tea time again my mmol is at 12 to 13 again can I just take more on the afternoon
Hi @paulduke1985 , if you are in the UK, go back to your doctor and ask that, as per the NICE guidelines, you are put on Multiple Daily Injections. Also ask for an immediate referral to a Diabetes Clinic. You shouldn't be out in the wild with Type 1 and no guidance as to how to manage it.
Moving back to your question, Humulin I is an NPH (Isophane) insulin and has an action profile that looks like the below:
It's normally prescribed as two injections daily, one in the morning and on in the evening, about 12 hours apart. If you do decide to do this, you will need to monitor your blood glucose levels carefully when you make the change. If I was in your position, I'd start by taking 50% of the dose in the morning and 50% in the evening and then monitor it to see what happened to my blood glucose levels.
Bear in mind that you should always discuss this kind of thing with your diabetes care professionals, especially when you are very early in diagnosis.
