Hungry

I am newly diagnosed and have not yet seen a diabetes nurse. I have reduced carbs considerably and am eating more vegetables / fruit and I now find that I am incredibly hungry especially after having eaten something. I am generally hungry most of the time but after having a meal it increases significantly. Is this normal?

Hi David

As a relative newbie I can only advise from my experience and I did feel hungry when I first started reducing my carbs but now that my BG levels are more under control (diet controlled T2, diagnosed in November 2010), I find that I dont feel as hungry :) . I eat 3 meals a day and rarely snack in between, although if I do get the munchies a babybel or some walnuts see me through. So hopefully your hunger pangs will soon disappear.

I am sure someone will more experience will be along soon to advise you. :)

Hi,

I agree, cheese, nuts and protein based snacks definitely keep the wolf from the door! If you're reducing carbs you will find that you don't feel really stuffed like you would after a carby meal, but you may have less cravings as your blood sugar will be at a steady level.
When I have an omelet for breakfast I feel less hungry all day.

Good luck.
