Been admitted for another serious Crohns flare up.

To treat been put on hydrocortisone by injection, stopping my 3mg busenide and my reducing glycoside 40mg

So high steroid to reduce flare
No glycoside also for some reason. No metformin stopped 6-7 weeks ago.

Just had finger prick test = 16.8

Told them that is hyper and they must contact duty doctor as that is very high.

They looked at each other, can insist they do this.

Before this flare of Crohns my hba was down to 31

I was on reducing 40mg glucazide that would have stopped 26th January

I was also on reducing 3 mg if Entecort (Busenide) also due to end 26th January.

Advice really appreciated asap

Many thanks in advance JoMar

I'm so sorry you are in hospital and struggling with both your Crohns and your diabetes.
During treatment with steroids, you'd expect to see high numbers, and I'm afraid the hospital doesn't panic with a T2 at 16.8. :(

I hope someone will look into medication for your BG soon, but if not, you might want to contact your GP or diabetes nurse to discuss temporary medication whilst on steroids.
From what I understand, it's not unusual to help a little with insulin for a short while.
Definitely ask why your medication has been stopped, if it's necessary to stop the gliclazide to help with the Crohns flare up, they may be able to help you with a different medication.

Good luck, I hope you'll feel better soon!

My mom was on a high dose of steroids, and while not technically diabetic, the steroids induced it. As long as she was in hospital, she got insulin for it, because no diet or other medication would make much of a dent. You might want to request help in that department, as it doesn't seem forthcoming on its own.

It's a temporary glitch, this too shall pass, and your HbA1c can recover from this again. And if need be, again, and again, and again. Your insides take precedence here. I do hope you'll feel better soon!
Hugs,
Jo

You could ask to see the diabetes team at the hospital.

Do you know long long you might be in hospital? If only day or two, I might be prepared to grind it out, but longer I’d want to know someone with specialist knowledge had been involved. In your shoes, that is what I’d be inclined to do.
