Hyperglycaemia and depression

Hey everyone,

I have been recently moved onto a basal bolus regime and it has been kicking my butt hard. For the past two weeks I have been running above 20 with no end in sight. The most worrying thing is my state of mind, I have been feeling really bad in my body and this is having an impact on my mind, I cannot get myself motivated and am struggling in my day to day. Has anyone felt this due to high blood sugars? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi pruk,

I've replied to your other post, hopefully it will help you get your sugars under control fast.

With regards to the psychological effects of diabetes - YES! Both low and high blood sugars push buttons in your head and body that can mess you up emotionally.

Thankfully there's an easy way out of this one - bring your sugars down quick smart!

Re: Hyperglycaemia and depression

Depressed seniors were slightly more likely to be diagnosed with Parkinson's disease than their younger counterparts with depression, and those with hard-to-treat depression were over twice as likely to be diagnosed with Parkinson's disease as those whose depression was easier to cure.
"Depression can come after a Parkinson's diagnosis and is highly prevalent in Parkinson's disease patients, but it can also come on years before the actual onset, thus it is hard to say whether Parkinson's causes depression or depression causes Parkinson's," Yang said.
Depression and Parkinson's disease are known to work together. Up to 60% of people with Parkinson's will manifest some symptoms of depression, according to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
One theory is that, as with the loss of a sense of smell, depression may be an early symptom of Parkinson's disease. The researchers attempted to control for this possibility by excluding all people who were diagnosed with Parkinson's disease within 2 - 5 years of a depression diagnosis.
