Hi all I'm 39 yr old type 1 an had diabetes for 20 yrs I have low sugars all the time but only find out if I test my bloods. I'm often 1.6 or 1.8 or 2.0 and you wouldn't be able to tell a difference I get feeling of hypers even if I'm only at 7.0 which is weird because that's a good level.

I think kings college hospital (prof Ameil) and Sheffield university teaching hospital (prof heller) are currently recruiting for patients who are hypo unaware to take part in a clinical trial for a hypo awareness restoration programme. It might be worth getting your care transferred to them if that would be of interest to you.

Hi Colsey_

Are your diabetic team any support to you? Im assuming youve done all the basal testing etc? Sounds frightening. Hope you are coping ok x

Iv lost my hypo awareness, but I know when I'm high straight away. My nurses told me to Try and run my bloods higher for a while 10-12 Iv been told to do for a few week and they've cut my lantus down a lot

I never had hypos until about a year ago when I transitioned into this basal bolus insulin type regime. Nowadays I get them on a weekly basis and never feel them coming on, but when they do - its often a 5 second eruption of things that happen. I never had hypos for the first 32 years of being a T1 diabetic, but this new insulin regime is really phasing my body. My doctors have told me for now to reduce the insulin dosage (I was on 30 of Humalog 4x a day and 30 of Toujeo 1x a day) and now I'm down to 25 3x a day, and 27 of toujeo 1x a day. I used to get hypos travelling home from work and ended up in hospital 3 times. Not good fun. Its taking time to relearn things. I used to be on a 2x a day novomix insulin regime which was perfect, and so am a little disappointed that this insulin was being discontinued, because for me I had no issues with it.

IMHO you should strongly consider investing in a CGM. Because a sugar of 1.6-2.0 is pretty darn low and I would be surprised if you can function normally on all levels at that mark. I wouldn't want you driving my taxi to the airport! A CGM will warn you of impending potential danger.
