Hi all , so I came home from holiday to a horrific diverticulitis attack, straight from airport to hospital! Long story short got bad infection but woke up today and thought I was dying, covered in sweat , dizzy and faint.
Dr did all tests and ecg all were fine heart was a little slow so she concludes it was a hypo as my bs was 3.6!
Im not on any medication so didn’t think this was possible?

I'm sorry to hear about the bad end to your holiday, hope the holiday itself was a good one before your problems kicked in!

3.6 is normal in non-diabetics, so very much possible. Non D's may feel hungry and faint with such numbers but it's not something to worry about.
The hypo is below 4 rule was invented for safety reasons in people on bg lowering medications. I think some current guidelines even advise pregnant diabetics to consider below 3.5 as hypo instead of 4.

How you felt definitely sounds like a hypo. If you have diabetes your blood sugars are likely a bit higher on average than those of a non D. If they are I can imagine how a 3.6 would feel like a bad hypo. Something like a 'false hypo' that many people experience when they're well above 4 when first getting their bg down.

Hope you feel better now!

When it comes to diabetes, anything's possible. Sometimes the cause can be tracked down, sometimes not.

In this case I suspect your liver dumped all its stored glucose into your system to help fight the infection... then ran out by the time you woke up.
