Hypo question

I had insulin right before i ate and it was the right amount of insulin to the amount of carbs
If you went hypo immediately on eating then the hypo was caused by some previously injected insulin (bolus and / or basal). Like DD said.

My levels were fine when i did my pre meal insulin

Hi,

If you have been recently diagnosed? (Which I suspect you may well have been.) it could be the "honeymoon" period? Which means your pancreas is producing spasmodic random amounts of insulin before giving up completely..

I had a hypo while eating and after eating and i dont understand why as i had literally just had carbs, can someone help explain?

Have a look at the following, it's an on-line carb counting course similar to the DAFNE course which will help with your insulin-to-carb ratio's:

http://www.bdec-e-learning.com/

As for hypo's, some great advice from Spiker, but try and keep things like Jelly Babies handy in the house, some of the budget stores sell them for around a £1 a bag which is good value for money.

Ive only been diagnosed for 2 and a half months so that would make sense

None of it makes sense sometimes.. All you can do is trace the problem back to what you know.
Keep a very close eye on your meter during this time... You might even be able to spot some trends?
Keep the sweet stuff handy & follow it up with longer acting carb. Just in case your pancreas decides to briefly show up for work?

Enquire about the DAFNE course with your DSN, the course cover things like getting your basal insulin right, insulin-to-carb ratio's, sick-day rules as well as other aspects of living with type 1 diabetes, its well worth it and you are sure to learn a lot from it,
