Hypo & raised blood pressure

I had my blood pressure checked at the gp earlier today. It is usually on the low side of 'normal', but today my blood pressure was classed as 'high' for my age. It's never been this high before and had jumped quite a bit. I can only think that it may have been because I must've been going hypo (when I got home 30 mins later I was definitely feeling hypo and my bs was 2.3). Do you know if hypos cause your blood pressure to rise? I'm obviously concerned that I now have a blood pressure problem, and the nurse has referred me to see the gp in a couple of weeks about it. It all seems a bit of an over-reaction to me. Any advice?

Hi

I have found this which may be helpful: http://www.natap.org/2010/newsUpdates/051110_04.htm

It look as though there may be a link between hypos and high blood pressure and that if you can control the hypos you may see a reduction in your bp. Something for you to discuss with your GP as good blood pressure control is important for those with diabetes.

I'd think that your blood pressure would definitely be affected if you're having a hypo. Your body is going into fight/flight mode and it's stressing out majorly. That's the down side.... any stress at all affects our blood pressure and sugar levels. Also my endocrinologist did explain to me that your blood pressure and cholesterol is controlled by hormones.... that's why they focus on these with diabetics because we already have a hormonal condition. It's all linked. He should know since he specialises in hormones. :D
