Hypo straight after tresiba

I have recently started using Tresiba in the evening for my long acting insulin and notice as soon as I do it, my sugar levels drop - every single time I literally watched it drop within 5 minutes this evening... my sugars were stable and within range beforehand as well.

Weird, as i read it's not meant to work until 2 hours after injection?

Anyone else noticed this or had something similar?

It's not supposed to work like that as I'm sure you're aware.

I think I'd be talking to my diabetes team at this point to see if they can suggest something (different insulin for example.)

Let us know how you get on

I was put on Tresiba in July of this year. I am not getting any immediate drops in my levels when I have injected it. However I have dropped the amount of Novorapid I injected previously. I assume the Tresiba must be working better than the Lantus I used for years?

I have been on Tresiba since August 2022 as well as Novorapid. I was on Lantus for years and one day a couple of minutes after my Lantus injection my sugar levels went very low as if I had injected too much Novorapid. Glucose and other things got it back up but it was frightening at the time. The only thing I can think of is that I injected into a muscle. I had been told to inject the Lantus into my thigh and the Novorapid into my stomach. As I didn't have much flesh on my thighs that might have been how I could have injected into a muscle. Now I am on Tresiba I still inject into my thighs, in the morning and make sure that I am injecting into fat and not muscle. After a couple of adjustments of the Tresiba dose which is now 17 units I have found that my sugar levels are more stable but I didn't have to adjust my very small doses of Novorapid, usually 2 units per meal or 3 at the most as I am very sensitive so have a pen this dispenses half doses.

It's only Lantus (glargine) which can have this effect, it's known as a Lantus low.
With Tresiba this shouldn't be possible due to the different way it's made long acting.
Here's some more on Lantus lows, which is not what's happening to @nreyn89 .
I have no idea what could be the cause of dropping immediately after Tresiba.

I use half dose pens & I find them really good. I didn't have any hypos with Lantus and find Tresiba very good.

Hi,

I'm sorry I know this is an old post, but I'm experiencing exactly the same thing. I have recently switched to tresiba and within an hour of taking it I'm having a hypo. I've even let my sugars run slightly higher before injecting tresiba and it's still causing me to have a hypo.

Just wondering if you got to the bottom of it, did it settle after a while? Did you stop using tresiba. I'm running high most of the day so it's almost like I'm not using a high enough dose of it but as soon as I have it I have a hypo so I just can't work it out
