Hypo without warning

Hi. I'm after some advice. The other day I had a very strange episode where within the space of about 5 mins I went from not being very balanced to becoming extremely pale, sweat rolling down my face, numb legs and feet and the feeling of not really being in the room (my hearing was sort of muffled and I found it hard to answer questions). Unfortunately I didn't have my test kit with me so don't know how low I went but I have never felt this bad before. I had eaten cereal and milk a few hours earlier. I was shocked at how quickly it all happened. After eating some bread and cheese and a few other bits it took about 3 hours to feel normal again but still felt sluggish even into the next day and also had a dull headache. Has anyone else ever had this happen so quickly? Any ideas about why I dropped so quickly without realising? Thanks in advance

Sorry to read about your experience. I am not familiar with your medication but if it could cause hypos, you need to carry hypo treatment with you at all times. This is fast acting carbs such as jelly babies or fruit juice and does not include any fat. Bread and cheese would raise your BG very slowly so could account for why your recovery took so long

This happened to me recently and I assumed it was a hypo and ate a load of glucose tablets I had on me. Then it happened again a week later and I realised it was actually my blood pressure dropping too low! Feels awful and worse than a hypo. Exactly as you describe above.

if you are on Gliczide, it may be that your dosage needs adjustment, as over time the meds are used to reduce your blood glucose levels, so as your overall levels drop, the higher levels you are used to, have dropped and will cause the symptoms you describe. This is known as a false hypo.

Unless you are prone to hypoglycaemia, which is quite rare!
