I have been doing just fine with a low carb diet and maintaining levels for a few weeks now I was out last night and had a a chicken salad and several glasses of red wine. When I tested at 2 am before going to bed I was horrified as I thought it said 27! I was so upset as I thought that there was no way I could have a life and eat out.
Anyway on closer inspection this morning after a lovely 5.4 reading, turns out I’d read it without my contacts in and it was 2.7!! My first hypo. I think it was the red wine, but how bad is this. I know about comas etc but is that level something to worry about?

Well clearly it fixed itself if you woke up fine but it is dangerous to not fix hypos especially after alcohol. Alcohol can drop your blood sugars and you have to be careful of alcohol after it.

Could always have been a dodgy reading of course.. Are you taking any medication that is know to cause a hypo?

It was an unusually late time to take a reading. I just hope that isn’t happening every night.

If you are diet maintained then your body will be taking care of itself. I still reckon it was a rogue reading or down to the wine.
I don't partake any more so can't speak from experience..

@Flora123 - As others have suggested your reading could have been a rogue one, or influenced by the alcohol - especially if you drank more than you might have done of late.

I've had some very low readings, in the 2s, although mine haven't involved alcohol, but they have been when I've been hungry, and very ready to eat.

As T2s, not taking medication, our bodies will generally look after us and our livers will release some fuel to bring those numbers back up again, without us having to do anything in particular.

Should I have a very low reading, and my meal isn't imminent, then I just have a cup of tea, with some milk in it, just to nudge my blood score up a little, to tide me over until food arrives or is ready. But then, I'm confident in my body function.

Some folks find after alcohol, their numbers next morrning are a bit lower than they usuaally see, and others find the opposite. This diabetes malarkey is so irrritating!
