hi ,

Advice needed , hypoing either an hour before dinner time or just before dinner time , what would you say this is background or rapid? My lunch is at a 1:1 ratio ,
It is a pattern so do I lower the background or the ratio .

Thanks

How long after your previous meal?
Fast acting insulin, typically, stays active in your body for 4 hours.
If you are hypoing within these 4 hours, it is difficult to tell what the cause it.

If you are hypoing more than 4 hours since your last fast acting, this is likely to be your background (basal) insulin.

Today it was exactly four hours but in general it is 4-5 hours after rapid so right on the question line .
Thank you for your help :)

Bolus insulin really lasts around 5 or 6 hours in your body, which means that most people use the wrong Duration for calculating what is having an impact. If you are hypoing in the 4-5 hour range it's likely to be a combination of a basal dose that's a little too high and a carb ratio that's a little too strong.

You should start by testing your basal rate (https://mysugr.com/basal-rate-testing/), and then once you are comfortable that this is correct, review your carb ratio and correction factor.
