Hypos Type1. Need advice.

Hey guys. Don't know if any one can help me. I'm a type one diabetic and for the past 48 hours I have had persistent low sugars. I have done no insulin since yesterday morning and I don't take any other medication and I've had loads of carbs however my sugars keep dropping drastically with no hypo symptoms. I've tried everything to get my sugars up but it hasn't worked. Any advice ???
 
How low has your blood sugar been? Does it go up when you eat or have glucose, and then drop later?
 
1.9 was my lowest reading after that I ate 2 bowls of chips. Some jelly tots and I had a fruit juice 200ml it went up to 4.8 and now I'm back to 3.1 that was all in a space of 1 hour :/ @
 
That does sound weird. I wonder if you have a reservoir of unabsorbed insulin that's now acting?

I suggest you have something like Lucozade or glucose tablets to put your sugars up initially whenever you hypo then some longer acting carbohydrate that you can measure the carbs in eg bread or biscuits. I also suggest you write down your blood test results and what you treated the hypo with and what you've eaten.

Have you spoken to your DSN over these 48 hours at all?

a couple of things -- how long have you been Diabetic ? If it has been under a couple of years you could be experiencing what is call the honeymoon period where your body is producing its own insulin

If you have been diabetic a long time is it possible some insulin has "pooled " and not been absorbed properly and has come out in an all out rush really recently.

the one other thing that springs to mind is the possibility of a condition called reactive hypoglycaemia.

Have you had absolutely no insulin .. Basal or bolus for almost two days?

I would speak to your DSN tomorrow.

How long have you been diagnosed. What insulin should you be taking?
 
You may need to phone for medical advice if your blood sugar won't stay up as, obviously, it could be dangerous?

Has there been any improvement at all over these last few hours?
 
I always find cheerios work wonders as they are full of sugar also loaded with longer lasting carbs. Stick with it. I remember my first 2-3 days were the hardest of all. Good luck
 
This probably isn't the answer, but have you checked that your meter hasn't gone haywire. If your bg is low, but you're not getting hypos, could it be the meter?
 
I have been diabetic for nearly two years. Didn't really bother with my injections until recently as I just couldn't come to terms with the fact I was diabetic. I have done absolutely no insulin at all since yesterday morning.
I'm now still sitting at 3.1 and drinking a sugary tea ... Just won't rise
 
I've also just used my metre on a Friend and her sugars are normal soo it's not that
 
What insulin should you be taking?

First off you must speak to somebody tomorrow. If you haven't been really taking your insulin properly for a while your pens may need renewing as they only have a short life span and they may not be dosing you properly.

Also your needs for insulin may have changed and the doses you need now are far different (less!).

You need to keep monitoring during the night as well tonight...

Ok, thought I'd mention it just in case. Sometimes the obvious can be staring us in the face and we can't see it, but that's obviously not the case here.
 
I couldn't really sleep last night because I was scared and testing every hour again they have been up and down up and down. I spoke to a diabetic nurse this afternoon and she said it could be because I'm under a lot of stress (I get married in less then 4 weeks)
I started taking my insulin properly about 3 weeks ago and everything was going great up until now.
They changed to my to nova mix 30 as I was struggling with apidra and lantus. My pens are changed regular and as soon as it's opened i throw away after 30 days.
Just really confusing me
 
To be honest I've had about 10 new metres in the past 2 years
 
Good that you are using again...
Sounds like you just need less.. And eat at times that mixed insulins need you to do.

sorry you have had a rough night -- I have had a few in my 40+ years
if you are on a mixed insulin routine is a huge part of taking this type of insulin -- meals and injections at the same time each day.

it sounds as though you could be "honeymooning" as well -- at under 2 years since diagnosis your body will be still produciing some of its own insulin -- enough to cause the crazy lows -
most important though is that you are taking charge of it -- and there are lots of us to help support you

Guys would just like to say thank you for all the support. I have woken up this morning with sugars of 4.8 little headache but feeling loads better going to have sown breakfast and see what my sugars have in store for me today ️xx
 
Hey guys can you believe my sugars have been perfect since Thursday's episode ... And I have still had no insulin ! Going to have my bloods done this week as no one has a clue what is happening with my body fingers crossed im maybe cured
