Hi, do you all get the same hypo symptoms when your about to have 1? Sometimes mine differ from the normal shaky/weak feeling to my eyes playing up. I had a hypo on monday of 4.1 usually my bs's are lower when i have a hypo. After the hypo i felt so ill i had to go to bed for a few hours, this has never happened before.

You may feel worse on some hypos than others depending on how low you are, for example you might feel a lot worse if you had a hypo of a 2.5, rather than a 3.6.
Having said that, sometimes my hypo symptoms change even if I have the same low bs on different days. Sometimes I feel shakey, others I get warm, sometimes I just feel slow... Remember there is no right or wrong hypo symptom- everyone is different :D

Everyone has different target levels, I personally don't class it a hypo unless it is 3.9 or under. It is good you felt a 4.1 as it shows you have good hypo awareness, however how long did you wait until you checked again? After you eat the correct amount of fast acting sugar you should test about 15 mins after to check you are rising again, and then eat a substantial snack so you don't drop again. Maybe you continued dropping so felt worse, on the other hand maybe you just felt tired after the low- you may get this if your bs' are up and down a lot.
Hope you are doing okay, let us know how you are getting on :)

Yes, my daughter feels hypos in different ways and sometimes a hypo picked up by her at 3.9mmol/l can feel worse than one at 3.0mmol/l for example. I think it's determined by how quickly her blood sugar is falling, the quicker the fall the worse it feels for her. How quickly it falls is dependent on how soon the hypo has happened since injecting fast acting insulin and/or if she's been doing exercise. If the injection was recent or exercise has been dropping her blood sugars quickly then the hypo seems to be much more intense than if the hypo is resulting from a very slow and gradual drop in blood sugars. When treating a hypo always test again 10 minutes later to make sure you've recovered fully from that hypo.

Hi Sarah,

Mine are rather strange and perhaps unusual, I get the sweats and shaky feeling like others but also get the urge to pass water! :(

As others have said the time of recovery depends on how low you go.

I had a hypo on saturday my bs had gone down to 3.9, tested a little later it had gone down to 3.8 had the shaky feeling but not that strong. I tested again 45 mins later it was still the same, had something else to eat. Tested again and it had gone down to 1.8 my mum was concerned so rang nhs direct they told me to have a jam sandwich and a glass of milk which i did, felt much better then tested about 30 mins later it was 19! Mondays hypo wasnt as low but ive never felt ill afterwards before.
