can sombody tell me what hypo means? and do you get these on both type 1 and 2? what is it and how do you know if you have 1, and how do you get rid of it? please help advise needed
Hi, "hypo" is short for hypoglycemia. It means your blood glucose levels are low ( usually below 4mmol ). This can be very dangerous and can lead to unconsciousness and coma. Type 1's and 2's can both get them, although if you're type 2 and treatment is diet and exercise, very rare. The way to check is by a blood glucose monitor, a finger prick and testing via a drop of blood. Treatment would be to take some fast acting glucose, a cola drink or some wine gums or something. Hope this helps a little.
Pressed send to quick to get rid or stop a hypo you need to eat some quick acting carbs or sugar I usually have a mars bar or glass of milk drink of lucozade ( glucose ) than have some long acting carbs to back it up like toast I have jam on this some times if I have non of he the fast acting stuff
