I my self do not have diabetes my partner does ,yesterday his behaviour changed, his mood changed in fact everything about him changed, :( Have since learned he was having a hypo , as I've never seen this before must admit it scared me , but ok now understand a little better, but not enough if it happens again What is the best thing for me to do for him , is their something I should have on me at all times very unsure ,confused

I am a type 1 diabetic and my dad is also. As a teenager I witnessed him having many hypos and struggled with my mum to help him recover. It's not a nice experience and I totally understand how you must be feeling. Have tubes of glucose tablets around the house in the car and on you if you go out. A lot of people having hypos deny it, this s a sure sign they are hypo. Learn to recognise the symptoms everyone's different. Tell your partner how you felt and ask him how best you can help if it happens again. I've just read Dr Richard Bernsteins book Diabetes Solutions, £15 from Amazon. Get it its brilliant and very useful. A very good chapter on dealing with hypos.

Hi. I would also check with your partner how often he checks his blood sugar with his meter. It may be this was a rare 'one-off' hypo for him but if he has them quite often it may be worth gently discussing his insulin injections and testing with him.
