Newbie here though have been lurking for a long time!
Diagnosed T2 in Oct 2015 with HbA1c of 61. Tough love and a prescription for Slimming World from GP saw nearly 2.5 stone lost and HbA1C down to 40 and still there two years later (lots of exercise too). So far so good....then in Oct 2017 had nasty fall resulting in quadruple shoulder fracture requiring surgery. In a sling for 8 weeks, no driving for 12 and feeling very sorry for myself (!) seeing all my good work slip away as I sat on the sofa and ‘treated’ myself with naughty food. Six months later I have put a stone on and glucose levels currently not in control. Have never self tested but bought kit last week and Fri night saw 7.7mmol before dinner and 12.5mmol 2 hours after. So...can I get back on track with diet alone or am I destined to return to GP to start medication? Any advice much appreciated, needless to say I am back in the zone! Thank you.

I found that by removing almost all carbs from my diet and cutting back on my eating window I lost weight and reduced HbA1c levels dramatically. No meds and 2 1/2 years later still going strong. Just my experience but it should be do-able.

Go for it with proper diet it should be within your capability. And then if you need to there is always the GP as a resource and medication if required is a valuable tool in your fight with big D.

Yes, you can do it with diet alone. I have. It may take you a little longer but it can be done.

If you cut the carbs and keep them down you should be able to see a great improvement.

From experience, it's not only diet that can affect glucose levels - pain, medication, illness, stress, may do so too, so your accident and its after effects will likely have initially played a big part in addition to all your naughty noshing.

Your question implies that it was tough to do it first time around ? How about trying low carb or fasting but doing it with a mindset that this is my lifestyle from now on. If you make changes that you can stick to (because you are not hungry or craving sweet stuff) then you will not be so easily derailed when something difficult happens like that injury or any of the other things that can and do happen to people. The fact that 'feeling sorry for yourself' led to a junk binge tells me that your regime wasn't right for you before because you could not stick to it indefinitely. Whatever you do next should work in the long term otherwise you will be yo yoing around/falling on and off waggons too much. Try LCHF in your own way and keep checking the bgs to motivate you but also ask yourself things like How are my energy/hunger levels?/Cravings etc. to find the right way to do it for you.
The short answer is Yes You Can!

So...can I get back on track with diet alone
HI Kerrie,
I'm a firm advocate of exercise.
BUT through talking to others on here and listening to there stories I know of many who are not able to go down the exercise route and have managed to achieve great success with diet alone.
