Not being able to eat lots of the above!
After being diagnosed as type 2 3-4 weeks ago I had been so concerned about a life on medication (I am 39).

Its amazing how the doctor can motivate you to a life change!!

After 3 weeks of going to the gym and eating healthy food (as well as cutting out my 12 - 16 500Ml bottles of original lucozade a week) - my fasting BG was today my best 4.2 and now i dont see spikes over around 8,0 and these quickly come back down to around 5.0!

My HbA1c was 9.4 4 weeks ago - I hope this will be better soon!!

I would also like to say a big thank you to this group as a major sorce of comfort and imformation since being diagnosed.

I still cant believe it but I cant get to see the diabetes nurse until 11th July (2 month after diagnosis) and have already been informed there is no chance of test strips etc on perscription - apparently type 2 do not need to test - I have brough my own test kit etc and have found it beneficial for seeing what food, drink and exercise has the biggest effect on me.

Is this "normal" now? I find it strange that 3 weeks ago this was a terribly seroius thing (according to the doctor) however it appears not serious enough for me to speak to the diabetes nurse for 2 months or have any test kit!

does your hospital not have a daily drop in clinic? mines has and you can phone or pop in and they deal with any problems :)

Congratulations on your recovery. Amazing the power of Lucozade. Have you worked out how many teaspoons of sugar you were consuming each day from those 12-16 bottles?

Hi,

I have never worked out how many spoons of sugar I was consuming with the Lucozade - I should should imagine it would be quite scary!

Well, I have just worked out that my sugar consumption through lucozade prior to diagnosis was around 336 tea spoons of sugar a week - this is around 1360 grams = 1.36 Kg of sugar a week - I wonder if stopping this has been a help in lowering my BG readings???

Scary really, looking back what a stupid thing to do, I loved this ever since being a child - lucozade was good for you, when you were ill thats what you had!!!!

Wonder no longer.
