I am getting a pump!!

Saw my specialist today and he has said I should be on a pump to help with my morning highs!

Overall he said my control was excellent, I have been doing a very comprehensive diary for the last few weeks. For some reason on a Saturday my levels rise. I could understand this if I did a very active job through the week but I don't, I am an office manager, my doctor was unable to explain why this is happening.

Just waiting nor for my appointment with the head nurse to get my pump fitted. I am hoping it will help with my weight loss too

Fantastic news Lorna! I was told by the DSN this morning that I'm eligible for the pump and have an appointment at the beginning of August to start the ball rolling. Please post more about how you find the transition etc as I'd be really interested to know. Did you carb count before? I've always matched my carbs to my insulin dose rather than the other way round so this will be new to me.

I have matched my insulin to carbs for a long time now, self taught no DAFNE course for me!!

I use the old fashioned portion system, this is what I was given when I was diagnosed in 1975, and Ihave worked out that I need 2 units of bolus for every portion (10g) of carbs except when I first wake up at 6am when I have to take 20 units of bolus to stop me going sky high I then take 8 units at 8am to cove my breakfast of 4 portions. It is this extra 20 units that I am hoping the pump will do away with. I will let you know how I get on

Nice one , had a pump for similar reasons and has helped enormously and overall having less insulin. With having the right amount given hourly I'm having more early hours and less through the day. So its got rid of the early morning rise, and eliminated the need for a snack before bed.
