Just need to write this to help hammer the message home to myself! I'm currently at 5.2 but I'm so used to being too high and have a fear of hypoing that my head is screaming at me to get my glucotabs.
I need to keep telling myself I'm ok until it's time to go for lunch.

Ah well done for getting your results in range. I know what you mean though, after running consistently high then getting back in range I have also felt this way when at a 'normal' level. Another thought to bear in mind though is that you're not free falling, I sometimes have this sensation of a 'false' hypo when my levels come down quickly, rather than a steady fall, best to keep an eye on it just in case, anyway it's now time for lunch !
 
@BeccyB, if you have no active bolus insulin on board then you should be fine, if you do then it's always best to monitor your levels closely in case your bg falls further.

False Hypo's are a weird sensation but they do disappear in time once normal bg levels are achieved, stay focussed :)

I have the libre so I can see it's been a steady drop from my post-breakfast peak, it's carried on down to 4.6 now though so definitely time for lunch!
Think it could take me a while to recalibrate myself but trying to be positive and remember that the change is good!

If you are using Novorapid as your bolus, its well known in having a kick in its tail due to its onset and duration, so a bg of 5.2mmol is ok if a meal is going to be eaten within 30 or so minutes but if longer, then that 5.2mmol will drop as you have found out. Although 4.5mmol is no where near hypoland, too many bg in the 4's usually starts to affect ones awareness of the hypo feeling over time and the hypo feeling only starts to happen when bg falls down to 3mmol instead of 3.4 - 4.0mmol. So, try eating 1/2 jellybaby (about 2g carb) just to get yourself upto 5.5 or 6mmol when you eat lunch.

Is it possible that after being used to having highs quite often you can become oversensitive with your hypo awareness and therefore start to feel a bit low when close to 4-5 mmol?

Probably.....yes but once the brain gets used to accepting lower bg levels as normal, then the awareness starts to alter so that the hypo feeling only starts ideally when bg is at 3.4-4.0mmol and not much lower but it also has to be said when the older insulins were being used, the true hypo feeling was determined at 2.8-3.2mmol. It is because most diabetics are now using the modern analogue insulins, that for safety sake, a bg of 3.4-4.0mml is better.
 
After a post-meal peak of 7.1, I've been in the 5s for the last 2 hours - don't know what I've been doing all these years, this is easy ;-)
joking aside though I'm dead chuffed - I'm not sure I've had a day in single figures for the last 20 years! Just hope I can keep this momentum going now....
 
I'm the same - been a bit naughty recently and my sugars been 11-18 since christmas. Went down to 8.9 yesterday and thought i was having a false hypo - however, i am a bit neurotic so it might be a false false hypo if you know what i mean.

Is 8.9 too high for a false hpo you think?
 
I've been feeling like that recently. It hasn't been long since I started looking after myself and like now am feeling shaky and just off balance but when I checked my levels it came up as 9.2. I don't know how to treat it because am not low but I feel like am heading that way. Plus its hard to concentrate when you feel as if your having a hypo.
