As a type 1 you don't have to instantly low carb. Although it certainly helps insulin dose calculation, it's not necessary.
With type 1 diabetes we have to keep our BGL's within a set range as much as possible. With the correct knowledge of carb to insulin ratios this can be achieved.
I'm also type 1 with fairly tight control and I couldn't live without my carbohydrates, I just love them too much!

He's been Type 1 for 70 years and the Low Carb High Fat diet literally SAVED him, and he treats both his Type 1 and Type 2 with this diet, along with proper medications when needed (e.g. as in the case of Type 1).
