Diagnosed about 8 weeks ago but Blood Tests showed big prolactin so was referred to an endocrinologist. No gp practice help at that point or since. Had MRI the results showed small 0.3mm cyst. Endo not that concerned but more tests. I have been eating low less than 80gm carbs a day and doing at least 30min exercise each day. Lost a stone in weight. I just can’t help but see this as a life sentence. Watching everything I do and eat. Life will never be normal.

Welcome to the forum.

First thin is, DON'T PANIC!!!

Diagnosis is always a shock but you need to give it 3-6 months for everything to settle in.
Life does go on after diagnosis and it is usually not nearly as horrendous as you first imagine.

Take a deep breath and trawl round the forum and you will find loads of positive things, and others who have coped with the initial shock then adjusted.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
What is normal?
Is it the normal that the food and drink that you are used to is a part of the problem that has led you to seek advice?
Or is it still the shock of the scan? There is always something that can be done.
I'm weird, I have had my GP at the time tell me and my endocrinologist confirmed it.
My body cannot tolerate most foods and I have to be careful what I put in my mouth that to be healthy, the avoidance of these foods is critical to my future health.
But because you don't have to be restricted dietary intake, there is room to eat your normal favourites, but maybe not the amount you have in the past.
What I would do now that you have joined our really knowledgeable forum and what works for most of us ab-normal diabetics, is to learn about the best way to tackle the condition you have. Of course, it's your choice, but knowing it is your health and it probably will get worse, that is your decision.
You have to find a balance, that is good and healthy for you.
Read around the different forums, especially the low carb forum and look at dietdoctor.com. it will give you more than enough information, where you can be back to normal. You are lucky.
Unfortunately, I can never be normal!

Hello and welcome,

I can remember feeling like my life was over when I was diagnosed. I love carbs and really couldn't imagine a life with severely limited carbs. But like you I found this site and the help and support I received here made all the difference.

So yes it is a change, and yes it takes a while to get used to but I promise it gets so much better.

The first thing I am going to do is recommend that you get a meter. Many doctors don't recommend it but my view is that I wanted to make changes and I really wanted to know that those changes were making a difference. I wanted to be able to tell how much of a difference those changes were making.

the second thing I am going to suggest is to read the links below:

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.17088/

They both provide a lot of information quickly.

The third thing is to give it time. It took me over 2 weeks before I wasn't crying everyday. I really did not take the news or the changes well. However, here I am almost 2 years later and life is good. I won't say I never miss the. carbs but as I went very low carb straight away (less than 20 grams a day) I found that my cravings have eased.

The only other thing I recommend is to stick around and post and read. This site has some of the most amazing people I have ever 'met'. The help I received here was life changing for me. I am in a good place now and this site helped me get there.

Good luck and welcome.
