I restarted my LCHF about 10 days ago... All was going well but tonight I really really really craved Hunky Dory Buffalo flavour crisps! Ive never craved crisps even when I was high carbbing! I sent my other half to the shop for those specific crisps... Ate 1/2 a 30g packet was satisfied... Then it hit me like a ton of bricks... I was obviously craving salt! Ugh I should have just had a stock cube...I won't let this deter me. My BS are great at mo!!

Been there done that - the salt cravings. Oh well that's how we learn to succeed next time eh? :-)

I think that could be why I'm craving (and eating) salted peanuts  I didn't think about it before but I have walnuts and almonds in the house but I just want to salted peanuts. I'll have to cross them off my shopping list as too tempting!

Laughing with you. :)

Unlike you, it took me WEEKS to figure this out when I first started on the LCHF diet. Same scenario. Toward the end of the day, I'd experience this intense need to eat corn chips with cheddar cheese melted on top, a pre-diet favorite. Totally committed, I looked at the label and figured out I could have 4 corn chips with cheese. It worked!

It wasn't until I started supplementing daily with salt that the craving went away.

I spoke with a nutritionist about my salt needs, and she explained that the body recycles sodium, so I don't need to add too much each day, in part because I'm also getting some sodium from food, particularly cheese.

So I decided to listen to what my body was telling me. After breakfast and lunch, I have a cup of green tea or hot water with 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon salt dissolved by stirring it. In the evening I have chamomile tea, salted hot water, or a glass of wine.

To insure adequate water intake, I drink a cup of water before I have any of these beverages.

If I start getting muscle cramps I take a 99 mg. potassium supplement for a few days to keep my sodium and potassium in balance. I also eat at least one potassium and one magnesium rich food each day. :)

I find the microwave cheese crispy thingies very handy for a salt/crunch craving. Just break a piece of processed cheese (the stuff in the individual plastic wrapper) into half a dozen even sized pieces, place on a bit of micro-proof baking paper & zap on high for 1min15secs. Crunchy, salty, low-carb craving killer.

True... Tomorrow is another day! I'm
All prepared too... Breakfast cooked, lunch ready & dinner plan...
Yep that's the attitude. It's just one day and it definitely doesn't have to spoil your overall LCHF plans.

BTW. I had a few similar experiences, especially when I was first starting LCHF. I refer to this type of incident as a "Carbo-snap". :)

"Those that dont make mistakes ,dont make anything." So you just get up and have another go until you get right.

Don't beat yourself up over it, too much ;) I ate a portion of lasagne last week, loved every forkful and then felt so guilty and also quite sick , lesson learned :)

Thank you Pepsi Max, your post has made me realize that it's salt I have been craving not the peanuts!
I couldn't understand my recent love of salted peanuts. Now it makes sense.

I keep craving salted peanuts didn't even think that would be why until I read this thread thanks :-)

Who needs crackers for cheese when you have these? So good!

I made the first batch on a plate. Took me 30 minutes to scrap off but they were crispy.

Decided to read your instructions before attempting a second batch. As luck would have it, I just happened to have on hand parchment paper designed for both oven and microwave. Yes!

Placed thinly sliced parmesan on the parchment. I stopped the microwave at 30 seconds on the second batch, 45 seconds on the third batch. Going to try a minute on the next batch tomorrow. This is way better than cheddar melted on corn chips, and as you said, "crunchy, salty, low-carb craving killer."

Thanks Safi! :)
