Im looking for info/help ....... i dont normally eat a breakfast, so I don’t take insulin. when i wake (between 9-10) i will drink tea/water and not eat until 1pm lunch time and take insulin for lunch and for dinner. My bs stay in target before lunch with no insulin. Should i really be taking 3 doses of novorapid ??? Im on novorapid with meals and lantus at 10pm

Hi @LeanneSpain. So are you saying that your BG levels come back down by lunch then ?

You don't need to take insulin if you are in range, only for corrections if your BG levels are rising - how did you arrive at 3 units ?

I take my insulin firs thing in the morning but do not eat till lunch time. Is this wrong ?

Hi Vic - it's only wrong if you're going hypo, if you're staying in range then it works :)

Not 3 units but 3times a day(morning lunch and dinner). My bs dont really move in the mornings, if i wake at 5 they might go up to 6/7 with no insulin.

Hi Leanne - ah ok, I thought you mean't 3 units not 3 times a day and I also thought you were at 9/10 mmol/l not waking at 9-10am :) !

The important aspect of managing your t1 is that you aim to stay within range, as you're doing it then then there's no need to take the insulin as otherwise you will end up going low. Novorapid is a flexible insulin so you take it to manage your carb intake as and when you eat or if you're BG levels become raised and a correction dose is required to bring you back into your target range.
