I have just got my blood sugar monitor and taken my first test before eating and it was 11.8!! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve started metformin and low carb diet but blood sugars still really high. I’m really struggling to know how to deal with this, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Welcome to the forum! Can you give us a little more detail so we can help you better? I assume you are type 2 as you are on Metformin but can you just confirm this pls. Can you give us an example of your days food incase we can tweak things for you? How long is it since you were diagnosed, as it takes a while for levels to drop?

I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago. Having spoken to my husband I have calmed down a bit as he reminded me that when I was diagnosed my fasting blood was 15 so I am improving. Yes, type 2, they think possibly genetic, have to go to specialist team to determine this. I’ve cut out all bread, potatoes, all carbs really. Eating lots more peanut butter, eggs, avocado, salad, bacon etc. It’s hard knowing what to eat, I’m just learning all about it!

Be careful about peanut butter as many are still fairly high carb even if they don’t contain added sugar. There lowest I have found and I love is 4.6g per 100g. I have seen some as high as 22g!

Are you exercising or walking at all?
At the beginning before I started on insulin, walking and exercising helped me to get my levels down a fair bit.
