This is my 3rd week now of testing and low carbing etc and my BGs still confuse me alot. I think because they are higher than they should be it is very difficult to find a trend and what food effects how and when etc...

My post breakfast readings are always lower than pre breakfast. Carbs during breakfast are usually either 3 rice crackers (18g of carbs) or 1 slice soya and linseed Burgen's bread (about 10g) or a small natural yogurt (about 10g). Today i woke up at 11.4 and said right - i ll have an all protein brekkie - left over roast chicken from yesterday and feta cheese...and i only went dow to 9.4 - so really not much bigger fall just by having a protein breakfast.

Usually then it goes down further before lunch - +2hr reading are usually a bit higher than pre but i had ones that were actually lower.

Before evening meal - had a mixture of being higher and lower from post lunch. +2hr after evening meal i have the majority of times been lower than pre evening meal (which confuses me). Yesterday had dinner of roast dinner, 1 sweet potato and broccoli and chicken gravy at about 8.00pm - reading before was 8.8; +2hr reading was 5.1 :eh: i actually tested again on another finger and i was 6.0 - then i tested before bed about 11.30 and i was 8.8 :eh: :eh: :eh:

i had a couple of rice crackers after i tested but before i went to bed. then about 4.30 am i needed bathroom...so then i said..oh let me test - just out of curiosity and i was 9.1 ....could not sleep until about 6am..woke and got up about 7.30am - tested and was 11.4....

i wish they made a bit more sense...so i can figure out what i am doing....

Have you discussed with readings with your doc? If you're testing now and can show the results you are getting then he might suggest changing meds or something. It must be very frustrating for you as it looks like you are trying really hard.

I am due at the doctor in the next couple of weeks and i know what he is going to suggest.... insulin... :(

Hi Claymic,

As a carb cutting novice, I'm afraid I can't say I understand those numbers either. I don't suppose I can offer much help but just wanted to say hi, and keep heart, maybe it won't be insulin yet. It can take a while for things to settle down.I read somewhere else on this forum that it took some people over 8 weeks to get their fasting levels down and I took real comfort from that. Also, my fasting levels are varying depending on what time I take them, for example yesterday, 5 mins after waking up it was 6.1, an hour later BEFORE breakfast they had risen to 7.8! I am monitoring this over the next few days but in general I would say my blood sugars are much higher in the morning and appear to decline slowly all day. My best results are 2hrs post dinner. I don't really know what this means either. What I do know is that my diet over the last fortnight is ENTIRELY different from my life long eating pattern. Every meal I eat is different from before and so is every snack. With the exception of two days, I haven't eaten past dinner and I used to be a total evening snacker! I spend my time looking at this forum and squaffing diet coke instead!

Good luck, keep it up, keep experimenting, keep testing, keep heart
