I see when some people are talking about there BG they say "my BG was high today 8" or my BG was a bit high 6.5 I didn't think this was high. Mine goes higher and I'm pre diabetic. Are they on meds and that is high when your on meds?

Hi Maddiemo

I am on diet only, no meds and I would consider 6.5 quite high for me and anything over high. I hate going 7 or over and thankfully that does not happen to much. But that's just me. :D

Hi maddie

the safe 2 hour level is 7.8 . Many people have managed with tight carb control and/or meds to bring there levels well below that (hence the HBA1cs in the 5 and 4%'s) they then consider 7's etc to be 'high'

Getting low's like that takes time and discipline but if its where people want to aim, it is do-able

That is indeed a high reading for a 2+ hour reading. What's your fasting reading? It takes a little time for readings to stabilise. But should happen with a some low carbing.

Hi Maddiemo. A reading of 11.2 is very high. Have you had the usual GTT test etc. You do appear to have poor blood sugar control and may need further tests to determine what the state of your diabetes is. I would get a meter and see how your blood sugars are behaving.

The UK guidelines say under 8 2 hours after eating and between 4 & 7 at all other times. At 11.2 you need to go back to the doc and get an up to date hBA1c test or GTT test done in my opinion. You can do a fasting blood glucose test as you have a meter. Fasting simply means don't eat or drink anything for 8 hours except water so most do it overnight. Measure your levels after fasting. Below 5.5 is normal. Between 5.5 and 7 would get a diagnosis of pre-diabetic and above 7 would diagnose you as fully diabetic.
