I feel better higher

Any ideas on this one forum buddies - No matter how I try to manage my insulin in take I feel so much better when my levels are higher (10mml) than within the range the doctors want me to have.( 4-7)I know the risk of complications but why do I feel so ill when lower. Feel really nervous, edgy. and just out of sync- not having a hypo because my readings are normal and yes fully understand how the body works - if I'm used to being high then will feel poorly when lower. I had really good readings for a few years but continually felt ill is there a solution to this?

This is probably better answered by an insulin user but basically your body gets used to the 'High' and when you come down it gets shaky. You will ,I think, find that as your sugars come down you will feel better at lower levels.

Thanks Sue , wish I did feel better lower but I don't , my body doesn't get used to it tried for many years now. Seems to be a continual rocky road.

Hi Tracy,

Are you using Lantus? This doesn't suit everyone, although the problem is usually
a general "groggyness" not linked to specific sugar levels.

The problem might be that your body just doesn't get on with synthetic insulins.

Regards,timo.

Hi Timo, yes I am using Lantus seeing my doctor on friday to see if she is knowledgeable enough to prescribe an alternative.

I also use novo rapid , to be honest not sure what I can and can't ask for or whats synthetic and whats not and of course how they all work. Oh joy.

My husband is a lifetime type 1 and spent years "running high". He has loads of complications. Recently, I have managed to get him to see sense and keep much lower. It took him a while to get used to it, but it's fine now and I'm hoping will improve some of his problems. Remember; the tipping point into damage is about 7

Hi Tracy,
You mentioned maintaining a level of 10 or higher and running the risk of complications. Unfortunately when level are maintained at 10 or above for a significant length of time then complications are a certainty, not a risk.
