If I wake to this I am fine, but whenever I have walked and it drops to this I feel weak and shaky and have to eat something , I just had some dark chocolate and a coffee with milk and the shaking stopped almost instantly , I#m not talking bad shaking I just have shaky hands and it stops when i eat something .

I am wondering if this is a combination of the walk and the lower sugar , I don't know but I've noticed it ever since I was diagnosed and the numbers started to drop .

Has anyone else experienced this wonder if its normal ?

Your profile says diet only, so I'm assuming you're not on drugs for your diabetes,

I'm on sitagliptin and metformin I can go down to the low 4s and feel normal so I'm not sure why you're having this problem. Seek medical help could be something else causing this.

Hi WackyJacky,

5.2 is not anywhere near a hypo so -assuming you are a type 2 and not on any medication (except for something like metformin) I would be wondering whether it is a false hypo or something else- like low blood pressure. I would also wonder whether you are maybe too low in something like salt or something else or whether you are dehydrated.

I guess I don't think adding carbs like milk is necessarily the answer and the answer maybe to eat something before going for a walk. But I really think you should talk to your doctor to rule out anything else.

Good luck.

If your body is used to higher levels when you get a lovely normal reading of 5.2 it has a little sulk because it's not getting the glucose it's used to. The best thing to do is tough it out eventually you will get used to the new lower levels. If you feel that you have to eat something give your body what it needs not what it is craving, some cheese or maybe some cold meats or even a few spoons of full fat yogurt. Chocolate or milky coffee is just giving in to the cravings.

Actually you just made me think, I was thirsty when i started walking and drank a few cups of water when i got home so might be dehydration. I will ring the nurse Monday and ask her and if she thinks i need to see the doc she will tell me go in . Our's is a none appointment surgery so we just go and wait .

I will try that tomorrow , I have some cooked ham so will try that instead of the dark chocolate. I am feeling fine again now . I really don't like the feeling though of shaky hands . I don't take any medication just diet and exercise .
Thanks for the reply .

I didn't make the coffee with milk I just added some milk , I realise it looked like I had made coffee with milk , but no it was just coffee with a dash of milk .

@WackyJacky64 what had you eaten before your walk? I find that if I eat something with more carbs than usual for me, it is the plummet down to normal levels that makes me feel shaky. I’m wondering if your bg is highish before your walk, that the walking may help it drop quite quickly.
Since I’ve been eating lchf for a while now I don’t very often have sharp rises or falls and haven’t had the shaky feeling for over a year.

Just like to point out that coffee with double cream is more luxurious and has less carbs than milk. Not saying make coffee with double cream.

Just saying :)

I may have had around 30 g of carbs , I've been ok since I've been fighting a cold and awful cough and my sugar was higher for a few days , might be the drop as i get better , I'm keeping an record and will go to the doctors if it continues .
Thanks for the reply and suggestion .

I get this all this time , if say i don’t eat anything from breakfast till lunch(about 3 hours) and then start walking , i can get very shaky and feel like fainting. As soon as iI I eat anything in any amount the feeling goes away instantly. I’ve had thus all my life (even before being diagnosed T2).

Me too. Even after 8 years of low carbing of around 100g a day. My GP witnessed it happening once when I fainted in the waiting room.

She reckons my liver kicks in very slowly sometimes. I try to be regular in how often I eat.

When I first went low carb I felt like I was having hypos when my blood sugar went below 5.5. But these were false hypos as my body adjusted from being used to running too high.
After a few weeks they stopped. I'm usually around 4.4 to 4.7 in the morning now and feel fine.
